Biotin in capsules or liquid: what actually differs?
Biotin, or vitamin B8, is a water-soluble vitamin. It comes in capsules, tablets, gummies and oral solution. All four forms deliver the same molecule. What separates them lies elsewhere — and it is not always what you are told.
1. Dosing precision
A capsule is a fixed unit: you take 1, or 2, never 1.4. An oral solution is dosed with a graduated cap, which allows adjustment. That is the only objective and systematic advantage of liquid.
2. What surrounds the vitamin
A capsule needs a shell, often cellulose, and almost always anti-caking agents and fillers to make up the volume. An oral solution needs water, a preservative and usually a flavouring. Neither list is intrinsically better: they are different, and they can be read on the label. If you do not know how to read it, it is here.
3. Whether you actually take it
This is the most underestimated point. A supplement is useless if the bottle ends up at the back of a drawer. Some people struggle to swallow capsules; others find it absurd to drink something at breakfast. Choose the form you will keep up for three months, because that is the duration that counts — for a precise biological reason.
4. The real price
Do not compare bottle prices, compare the price of the full course. A 500 mL bottle dosed at 15 mL a day is 33 days. A pot of 60 capsules at two a day is 30 days. The calculation is done per month, not per unit.
And the fifth difference, the one we will not claim
You will often read that liquid « absorbs better ». That is the standard sales argument for the drinkable form, and we would happily sell it if we could back it up. We cannot. For a vitamin that is already water-soluble, like biotin, that absorption superiority is not established. So we will not write it anywhere, not here and not on the carton.
What we are allowed to say, because it is an authorised claim in Europe and it holds for every form: biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair. Nothing more. The detail of what regulation permits and forbids is in this article.
What to remember
The form does not make the quality. The dose, the readability of the label and your ability to keep going for the duration do. If liquid suits you, take liquid. If you prefer a capsule, take a capsule — and simply check what is inside.
